Venga Scales Up its Business with the Help of Xeround’s Cloud Database
Venga provides a guest management platform, allowing restaurants to build highly targeted marketing profiles for customers to increase loyalty and satisfaction. Venga seamlessly integrates with a restaurant’s point of sale system, capturing all of the information on the bill (server, dishes, check amount etc.) and turning it into actionable insights.
One of the driving forces behind Venga’s guest management service is its ability to efficiently collect data from restaurants’ point-of-sales systems and export it to its cloud-based analytics system. A vast amount of transactional data, such as customers’ food and drink orders, is sent in near real-time to Venga ‘s database. This data is complemented with feedback sent from an app on guests’ mobile phones. “We have several applications that use our database as a backend, including a Ruby on Rails interface for end user’s mobile app interaction and a .net interface for our analytics system,” said Karl Johnson, Venga CTO.
One issue Johnson wanted to resolve was growth. “In the last six months our data grew exponentially. It didn’t take a rocket scientist to realize that soon we would need to spend much more time and resources on a slew of database issues. We realized we’d rather spend our time on the functionality of our applications.”
Venga selected Xeround’s database-as-a-service, importing its data from its in-house database. No changes had to be made to existing code and queries, which proved a major advantage in the migration process, which was “pretty simple and straight forward.”
Today, Venga runs its cloud database on Xeround’s data center on Amazon EC2. The database holds more than 7M rows of data and handles 200,000 transactions on a daily basis.
