Zero-management, highly available MySQL cloud database ideal for smaller applications and on-going development, testing and staging purposes.

Mountain View, CA –(January 11, 2012) – Xeround, the Cloud Database Company, today announced Xeround FREE, a free version of its popular cloud database for MySQL applications. Xeround FREE provides MySQL users a free, zero-management, highly available cloud database solution in just one click – without having to install, configure and maintain a MySQL database in the cloud.

Xeround FREE is suitable for smaller applications as well as for on-going development, testing and staging environments. In addition to guaranteeing high availability with its built-in replicas and a unique self-healing architecture, Xeround FREE is also the only true native cloud database – engineered specifically for the unique cloud environment – thus avoiding the pitfalls of a traditional MySQL installation in the cloud. Available up to 10Mb at no charge, Xeround FREE is initially offered on Amazon EC2 in the US and as an add-on for the Heroku platform, expanding to additional cloud datacenters in the near future.

“Xeround FREE is the direct result of developers asking for a free version of our cloud database service for their MySQL apps,” said Razi Sharir, CEO of Xeround. “Now everyone can enjoy a zero-management, simple, always-on database for their apps at no cost – so developers can experience the least amount of friction while developing in the cloud. Unlike Amazon RDS or other MySQL implementations out there, Xeround’s free offering is the only native cloud database, providing high availability and true elasticity with no management or configuration overhead.”

Xeround Cloud Database Editions

For customers that require larger database sizes, higher levels of scalability, additional support and SLA, Xeround is announcing two additional editions of the company’s cloud database solution: Xeround BASIC and Xeround PRO.

Xeround BASIC is ideal for medium-sized applications in need of high availability and scalability in the cloud. Xeround BASIC is limited up to 250MB and is offered in tiered pricing starting at $17/month.

Xeround PRO, the commercial version of Xeround’s database-as-a-service that launched last June, is suitable for mission-critical, larger-scale applications that require unlimited scalability, high availability SLA, scheduled backups and more.

Xeround PRO already has more than 300 paying customers and boasts a complete end-to-end solution for seamlessly running MySQL applications in the cloud. Xeround PRO also includes the industry’s first auto-scaling feature for the database tier – allowing it to automatically scale across multiple nodes when more resources are needed, and shrink back down when underutilized.

Xeround PRO is offered in a pay-per-use model starting at $0.21 for GB/hour of data (with a minimum charge for 0.5GB), and $0.43 for GB of data transfer.

Both Xeround BASIC and Xeround PRO are available on Xeround’s Amazon EC2, Rackspace and Heroku datacenters.

While Xeround FREE is free forever, users can also try Xeround BASIC and Xeround PRO for 30 days at no charge.

Mountain View, CA; O’Reilly Strata, NY Xeround, the Cloud Database Company, today announced the commercial availability of their database-as-a-service for MySQL-based applications on the Rackspace Cloud. Furthermore, the company is releasing an API, allowing developers to configure their application to automatically create and manage multiple database instances in the cloud.

After five months in beta serving hundreds of users, Xeround’s database-as-a-service has become commercially available on the Rackspace Cloud. This is in addition to commercial availability on Amazon EC2 and the Heroku platform announced last June. Xeround’s service will initially be offered on Rackspace in the US and then expanding to Rackspace UK and additional cloud providers in the next few months.

Xeround customers running their applications on Rackspace can now choose to create their cloud database on Rackspace as well, and enjoy Xeround’s no-downtime guarantee and true elasticity. Customers are entitled to a 30-day free trial, after which their database instance will be charged by actual usage- depending on data size and data transfer.

In addition, the company has released an API allowing developers to easily configure their software to provision and manage multiple Xeround cloud database instances.

Many applications today are required to create a new database instance for every end user or account that uses the service. This is especially true for Software-as-a-Service (SaaS), Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) and Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) applications. Effectively managing sometimes thousands of database instances is becoming a major operation problem for many providers. Each database has its own needs in terms of size, throughput and performance – and ensuring multi-tenancy, scalability and availability, is challenging. With Xeround’s API, these applications can easily create numerous database instances and assure they are optimally running in the cloud, and that all scalability and availability issues are automatically handled by the service itself.

“We’re thrilled that our offering is now commercially available on Rackspace,” said Razi Sharir, CEO of Xeround. “This is a major step forward for us in terms of offering our customers multiple cloud platforms to choose from – hundreds are already taking advantage of Xeround’s service on Rackspace. Further, the new API enables enterprises to take the headache and guess work out of manually dealing with multiple database instances by offering high availability and automatic scaling for the database with no management or development overhead.”

“Xeround’s solution on top of the Rackspace Cloud addresses customers who need a scalable, and reliable cloud database solution,” said Ven Shanmugam, Senior Manager, Strategy and Corporate Development at Rackspace. “Now with it being commercially available, any organization or developer can reap the benefits of an always-on and elastic MySQL cloud database on the Rackspace Cloud.”

Milpitas, CA — June 13th, 2011 — Xeround, the Cloud Database company, today announced the general availability of their cloud database service for MySQL applications. During the nine-month beta period that launched in September 2010, more than 2,000 users have tried Xeround, with many already using the service in live production environments.

“There has been great demand from our users and we are very happy to announce that our cloud database is now available for production environments,” said Razi Sharir, CEO of Xeround. “Xeround offers the market our simple, easy to use cloud database solution, allowing users to focus on their applications without worrying about the tedious tasks and frustrations involved with maintaining scalability and availability in the cloud.”

Xeround charges based on two usage metrics: Database Size and Data Transfer (data that is transferred between the application and the database). For end users, this simple and easy to manage pay-per-use model ensures that the costs of running their database are tightly linked to the scale of the application it supports in a truly dynamic and flexible way. Xeround’s database service includes built-in replicas and automatic failover to ensure high availability, as well as Xeround’s industry-first auto-scaling features.

Xeround becomes the first true pay-per-use cloud database service available in the market where customers only pay for actual resources consumed and not by server/instance size. Unlike other providers, such as Amazon RDS, that require customers to commit to a pre-set instance size that provides pre-set storage and processing capabilities, Xeround is able to automatically scale up or down to the exact needs of the application so that the database gets additional resources when it needs more size/throughput, and scales back down when it is underutilized. This effectively eliminates both over-provisioning and over-paying, meaning users truly only pay for what they use.

In addition, unlike other cloud services that do not offer their users any SLAs – Xeround guarantees 99.9% availability and no operation downtime of their cloud database. Xeround also includes email/web support and 24/7/365 phone support for critical issues as well as daily backups.

Users who register for Xeround will enjoy a thirty-day free trial with no credit card information required. After the trial period, users will be billed based on the actual resources consumed by their database. Xeround requires no subscription commitment and has no minimum charges. Database Size will be charged at $0.12/GB/hour, and Data Transfer will be charged at $0.46/GB. Furthermore, users who join by July 25th will enjoy 25% off their monthly costs until the end of the year as a special introductory offer.

Xeround’s cloud database is now commercially available on Xeround’s Amazon EC2 datacenters (in the United States and in Europe,) the Heroku cloud platform, and will soon expand to Xeround’s Rackspace datacenter, with support for additional cloud providers planned in the near future.

BELLEVUE, WA — (April 12, 2011) – Xeround, the Cloud Database company, today announced the addition of auto-scaling functionality to their cloud database for MySQL-based applications.

With the addition of auto-scaling capabilities, Xeround is the first cloud database in the industry, including Amazon RDS and Database.com, to offer robust elasticity with automatic rule-based scaling for MySQL databases in the cloud. Scaling up or down is done with no database downtime and is transparent to the application, meaning no code changes are required.

“Scaling an application by adding additional servers and a load balancer is a no-brainer, and many cloud providers offer that,” said Razi Sharir, CEO of Xeround. “In contrast, scaling the database in the cloud is much more difficult because of the cloud’s stateless environment, and is potentially risky as it can cause a temporary denial of service. Xeround’s automatic scaling is a major step forward in simplifying the way databases are managed in the cloud”.

Automatic scale-up allows the database to instantly increase its resources when data capacity or throughput reach critical thresholds as defined by the user. To enjoy auto-scaling, all users need to do is log in to their Xeround Database Manager console and define the threshold at which they wish the database to automatically scale up. By the same token, when the database is under-utilized, automatic scale-down shrinks database resources to save costs, while ensuring that the system will continue to function without disruption.

Automatic scaling and the dynamic allocation of resources are key to Xeround’s ability to bill users based on actual usage, and not by a pre-set instance, which often results in over-provisioning. As Xeround’s auto-scaling feature develops, users will be able to configure advanced rules and policies for automatically assigning resources to their database as their application demands.

Thousands of users have tried the Xeround cloud database service public beta, which now includes auto-scaling. To try Xeround, visit http://xeround.com.

Xeround, the Cloud Database company, today announced the availability of their database service for MySQL-based applications as an Add-on for the Heroku cloud platform – the most popular PaaS (Platform-as-a-Service) for Ruby developers.

Xeround’s Heroku add-on provides simple one-click integration between Heroku applications and Xeround’s Database-as-a-Service.

From the users’ perspective, all they need to do is add the add-on to their application from within the Heroku environment. This automatically creates a MySQL-compatible cloud database that easily connects to their application. Xeround’s cloud database enables Heroku users to take advantage of a highly available and elastic database that can grow in size and throughput as required by the application.

“Xeround is already running on Amazon EC2, and we’re very pleased to announce that our service is now available also to Heroku users as a simple add-on,” said Razi Sharir, CEO of Xeround. “This is just the first of many steps we’re taking to expand Xeround’s database for the cloud, enriching our feature set and enabling easy integration with popular platforms in the cloud ecosystem.”

“We’re excited to have the Xeround Cloud Database available as a Heroku add-on,” said Morten Bagai, Senior Director of Product Management at Heroku. “The cloud, and the Heroku Platform in particular, promises simplicity – both in the development stages and in production. A simple cloud database is therefore great fit for Heroku developers looking for an easy way to ensure a stable and cost-effective database in the cloud.”

Xeround’s database is currently the only horizontally scalable and highly available SQL database available for Heroku users. To try Xeround’s add-on for Heroku – currently in private beta – Heroku users should sign up for the Heroku beta program by sending an email to beta@heroku.com.

Bellevue, WA — January 12, 2011– Xeround (www.xeround.com), the Cloud Database company, today officially announced that their “MySQL for the Cloud” service is a multi-geographic cloud database, with their service now available on Amazon in Europe as well as North America.

Xeround’s multi-geographic capability lets organizations choose to run their database instances closest to wherever their applications are running. By having their applications as well as databases co-hosted on the same cloud and in the same geographical region, companies that rely on Xeround can address the key issue of performance in a cloud environment and significantly decrease latency of their applications. When signing up for Xeround, customers can select the data center closest to their applications.

In addition to offering multiple data center locations, the new beta will support multiple cloud providers over the next year. Because Xeround’s cloud database is agnostic to your choice of cloud provider, those that choose Xeround can avoid vendor lock-in and migrate seamlessly between different clouds.

“Whether they are on the private or public cloud, most databases can’t offer the elasticity that Xeround provides,” said Razi Sharir, CEO of Xeround. “Because Xeround is a distributed, multi-tenant database that was built specifically for the cloud, we are able to add more choices for our customers such as data center locations and cloud providers.”

“At cloudControl, we always strive to enable PHP developers to choose from the best technologies available to power their projects,” said Philipp Strube, founder and CEO of cloudControl. “That’s why we are especially excited to partner with Xeround, a high performance, scalable and highly-available MySQL-compatible database solution.”

Hundreds of users have tried Xeround since their private beta announcement in September. Now Xeround has made their beta cloud database service available to the public.

Razi Sharir, Xeround’s CEO, will be participating in a panel at QCon with other leaders of modern data management in the cloud. The discussion will cover the different aspects of managing data in the cloud, as well as the various challenges and solutions that are available today.

From the panel’s abstract: Scaling out the data tier has always been a challenge, but it is exacerbated in the cloud. By nature, cloud computing environments are dynamic and elastic. That, coupled with the fact that today’s applications need to handle web-scale data volumes and transactions, makes the traditional approaches to data management unfeasible. This panel will discuss the unique challenges of managing data in the cloud — and the solutions from a variety of perspectives: database-as-a-service, NoSQL, cloud-specialized relational databases and more.

Bellevue, WA – (Marketwire – October 13, 2010) – Xeround (http://xeround.com), today announced that its beta, always-on platform is available on the Amazon cloud. Due to the growing demand for a scalable, elastic and no-fail platform, nearly 300 companies and developers are currently using Xeround’s beta program. Now anyone, including users deploying Amazon RDS and/or running MySQL on Amazon, can simply transition to using Xeround’s database by changing the connection address, loading the schema and running it.

“Amazon is the leader in cloud computing, and today we’re offering our users a choice between having their databases reside in our own data center or Amazon’s,” said Razi Sharir, CEO of Xeround. “Given its unique ability to run anywhere, Xeround’s technology and features make it the best choice for a database within a cloud infrastructure.”

Xeround’s flagship product, an in-memory database, is a result of several years of development and successful deployments in telecommunications operations environments, resulting in Xeround’s guarantee of continuous service during schema changes, resource modifications and the scaling process. Based on a patented technology, Xeround’s service utilizes virtual partitions where data partitions are decoupled from physical resources. These virtual partitions hold a (configurable) number of copies of both the data and the indexes in order to ensure high availability and performance.

Xeround encourages those seeking a highly scalable and available Database-as-a-Service (DBaaS) to sign up for their private beta:http://www.xeround.com/getting-started/
